Search Virginia Beach County Inmate Records

Virginia Beach County inmate records are searched through the local jail roster maintained for the Virginia Beach Correctional Center. A Virginia Beach County jail roster search can show current custody details, released-inmate matches, charges, bond information, housing fields, and booking photos when the profile is available. Local jail records cover the city jail, not every sentenced state prisoner or federal detainee. People transferred after sentencing, placed under state supervision, or held by federal or immigration agencies require a different locator. The right search path depends on where the person is held now.

Virginia Beach County Jail Roster Overview

The official local roster is the VBSO Inmate Lookup Tool. VBSO links it from the sheriff's office home page and says it provides charges, bonding information, and mugshots for current Virginia Beach Correctional Center inmates. The lookup is a legacy DSI-ITI "IML - v. 3.0" interface with two search paths: name search and unique identifier search.

The Virginia Beach County jail roster is not a universal criminal-record database. It is tied to VBCC custody and recent or released jail records that the system makes searchable. A person who was sentenced to the Virginia Department of Corrections may move into the VADOC locator. A federal sentenced prisoner belongs in the BOP locator. Immigration detention uses ICE ODLS. Virginia VINE adds custody and case notifications, but it is not a replacement for the roster.

Use the Virginia Beach County Inmate Roster

A strong Virginia Beach County inmate records search starts with a name, date of birth, or identifier. The roster permits first name, last name, DOB, and several agency identifiers. Use the released-inmate checkbox when a person was recently booked but no longer appears in current custody results.

  1. Open the VBSO inmate lookup and choose "Search by Name" or "Search by Unique Identifier or Value."
  2. Enter first name, last name, and optional date of birth, or choose an identifier from the dropdown.
  3. Check "Include released inmates" if the goal is a recent or past custody record.
  4. Submit the search and review the result list for name, booking number, permanent ID, DOB, and release date.
  5. Open a result row to inspect the profile, mugshot, charges, bond, housing, and detainer sections.

Virginia Beach County Roster Search Fields

The VBSO roster supports both broad and narrow searches. The identifier path is useful when a court document, bond paper, jail account record, or agency notice gives a number. The ICE Number option does not mean VBCC is an ICE detention center; it means the local roster can store and search that identifier when it is part of a VBCC record.

Virginia Beach County Inmate Profile Fields

A VBCC inmate profile can be dense. It may carry identity fields, physical descriptors, local and outside identifiers, housing fields, a projected release date warning, detainers, bond entries, charges, aliases, and hearing information. Results can also show a release date, so a search may return both people still in custody and people who have left jail.

Find Virginia Beach County, State, and Federal Inmates

Custody location controls the search. The county roster is best for someone booked into Virginia Beach Correctional Center, including pretrial detainees and short local sentences. VADOC is the correct place for many sentenced prisoners and supervisees. BOP is for federal sentenced custody. ICE ODLS is for immigration detention. Virginia VINE can send custody or case notifications, but VINE data should be checked against the agency record.

Booking Process in Virginia Beach County

VBSO and city sources describe intake as a structured custody process. Arrestees are brought to VBCC, searched for weapons and contraband, fingerprinted, photographed, entered into jail records, and screened by Medical and Classification before housing. Personal property is inventoried, a property voucher is issued, and an identification card is issued for jail privileges. If a person cannot make bond, a Classification Deputy interviews the inmate and creates a housing assignment.

The rulebook states that a person who cannot make bond is arraigned on the first day of court following incarceration. Virginia Beach arraignments may occur by closed-circuit video. Intake holding cells have phones, and the rulebook says inmates have the chance to complete one free five-minute call, with more calls possible unless there is a problem.

Classification
Jail screening used to assign custody level and housing.
Detainer
A hold from another agency or case that can affect release.
PR bond
Personal recognizance release on a signature rather than cash.

Contact and Records Requests

Mail to a VBCC inmate must include the inmate name and OMS number and use the jail mail address format published by VBSO. Incoming and outgoing mail is inspected, legal mail is opened in the inmate's presence, and unauthorized packages or prohibited content can be refused. Money orders, cashier checks, kiosk deposits, CareMart packages, GTL/ConnectNetwork services, and phone accounts all have separate rules.

For inmate records not visible through the roster, use the VBSO FOIA page or the City FOIA Request Center. VBSO names Capt. Lois Thompson as the records contact at pso@vbso.net, office phone (757) 385-1971, and fax (757) 385-1798. Virginia FOIA requires a response within five working days, with possible extensions, charges, redactions, and deposits in some cases.

GTL/ConnectNetwork lists the Virginia Beach Correctional Center with Site ID 25 for AdvancePay phone, trust fund, visitation scheduling, and video visitation services. The research did not locate a general sheriff or police mobile app with an inmate lookup feature.
